Ole Ombré
Recently on Twitter, Claudz tweeted a link to her next baking challenge, always up for a challenge myself I decided to try this cake too
Claudz found the cake on Oh Darling Bride's blog, with the original recipe first blogged here: Ombre Pink Swirl cake, ((Check out the comments on Glorious Treats posts for links to others who have baked this cake, the varieties are simply mind blowing and all the cakes are gorgeous!))
I followed the recipes for both the cake and the icing on Glorious Treat exactly – as my cake tin is 22cm I trebled the cake quantities to make the 5 layers (equalled 1⅓ cups of batter in each tin)
I found that even though the contrasts in the shading looked quite different in the bowls, when the cakes were baked, to me, they’re not as starkly different – so my advice here is to ‘over-colour’ even if it seems extreme. The cakes themselves baked beautifully and evenly – it really is an almost perfect cake recipe! (I used it for vanilla cupcakes I baked last week too)

Once the cakes were cool, I layered them with the iciing inbetween layers and filled up the gaps on the sides and then let it set in the fridge while I made the pink icing. I wasn’t brave enough to the try the multi-shaded icing, but next time for sure.
I used two types of piping styles as I didn’t want the top icing too thick and then I popped a pink pearl ball in the centre of each top swirl
and a big silver ball in the swirls around around the side
Icing the cake did take a long time and required a lot of patience!! Makes me all the more grateful for my decorating turntable.
As you can see the shading differences in the middle layers are not that obvious but its there. We cut into the cake as an afternoon treat with a delicious cup of tea.
Do check out the fabulous cakes Claudz has baked this year, she is so talented!!

This looks AMAZING! So wish I had your mad icing skills
